What does SPIN stand for?
Software Process Improvement Network. SPIN groups are loosely affliated with the Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute (SEI). SPINs are based on geographic location and exist in most major cities. A SPIN provides practical forum for the interchange of ideas and information about software process improvement.
More about SPIN groups can be found at the SEI SPIN website.
What does SPIN do?
The main activity of the Milwaukee SPIN is the events we organize and sponsor on the third Thursday of the of the month. These events consist of "networking" time, during which we meet new colleagues, share ideas informally, and have something to eat. Following the networking time is formal presentation by a speaker on a software related topic. The event finishes up with Q & A. Our events generally start at 5:30 PM with networking. The presentation starts at 6:30 PM and the event ends at 7:45 PM. We do not meet in the months of December, June, July, or August.
What does it cost to attend a SPIN event?
Most SPIN events are free to attend, although we ask that you register for the event through our website to help with our planning. Each month, the SPIN organization sponsors, or finds a sponsor, that provides a meeting place, food, and refreshments. Some corporations donate money directy to Milwaukee SPIN that is used on speaker's fees, food, and refreshments.
How do I become a member of Milwaukee SPIN?
Join Milwaukee SPIN by visiting the membership page of our website. We track the name, email address, company (optional), and phone number (optional) of our members. We notify our members of SPIN events by email and offer our members a streamlined "2-click" registration process. We also offer SPIN members discounts on training events we organize and other member benefits.
Do I have to become a member to attend a SPIN event?
No, but please register through the website to attend the event.
Do I need an account and password for the SPIN website?
No. The current design of the website does not require you to have an account and password. You are recognized as a member, or not, by your email address. A previous site design used a content-management system that did require an account and password. This system is no longer used. We also previoulsy used a "Mailman" email list to communicate with our membership; this list is no longer used.
